THE RIDE Makes Strides toward MCS Access
Boston Self Help Center’s MCS Project recently gave two trainings about multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) to key RIDE personnel. The trainings were warmly received; in fact, some attendees asked for further trainings. (Click here to read “The Ideal RIDE for People with MCS” [PDF], one of the MCS Project’s educational handouts.)
Our main focus now is to see that the trainers’ recommendations are put into practice. At the second training, it was reported that this was already happening. Attendees also admitted, however, that some recommendations posed enormous challenges, and we began a dialogue about how to solve some of them. (For instance, how does one make a vehicle accessible to a passenger who is chemically sensitive when another passenger is wearing perfume?)
The MCS Project — and by extension, RAP — is in conversation with the MBTA both about such challenges and about future trainings. If you’d like to know more, please leave a message with Boston Self Help Center at 617.277.0080. We'll call you back as soon as we can.
